Description:
When a standard AR-15 is converted to shoot .22lr instead of .223 (or any other caliber), the bolt catch stops functioning.
Some magazines (like the CMMG Gen 1) try to replace this functionality by having a follower that gets in the way of the bolt after the last round is fired. The challenge with this is that the bolt will then drop after the magazine is removed because it was just the magazine holding it open.
One answer to this issue is the Catch22 V1. This bolt catch is a replacement for the stock bolt catch.
Pros:
- Single piece with no moving parts
- Works across all .22lr AR magazines
Cons:
- Not the right product for you if you're not exclusively shooting .22lr (Use the Catch22 V2 or Better-Mag adapter for that)
- Needs a clip-on or stick-on shim if you're using 15-22 magazines
NOTE:
- If you're using the Catch22 with S&W 15-22 magazines, you'll need something to take up the slack because 15-22 mags are smaller front-to-back than an AR mag well. Catch22 offers two solutions for this.
- Clip-on adapter

- If you're only running 15-22 magazines, this makes more sense since you'll only need one regardless of how many magazines you have.
- Stick-on adapter

- If you're running multiple types of magazines, use these so that you don't need to remove the clip-on adapter every time you want to use a non-15-22 mag
